The Tartarusian clans and what they do Total Tartarusian population: 74.8 billion I like ingrid's idea of having multiple cultures per society and i think i will try to do that. Clans[a][b][c] Clan markings are passed down the paternal line. When young tartarissians rebel against their clan identities they are often shunned or labeled as outcasts. You can only switch clan in certain cases, mostly if you have done work for them in the past. It's kind of like citizenship Hemiptera (huh-mip-tr-uh) The most important clan. The Hemiptera clan has controlled the throne of Tartarus for the past 5000 years. They focus on diplomats and make up a large part of the IPA diplomatic staff. Their clan's uncontested control of Tartarus allows them to ensure there's always a Hemiptera on the throne. The hemiptera palace is built inside of a dormant volcano on the outskirts of the capital city of arthropodia. “ i swear to fucking arth if peace is't achieved soon im going to kill everyone in this room and then myself”-queen glika hemiptera. Queen- maria hemiptera Formici (four-MIH-see) The Formici clan is the most scientifically focused clan and the first to settle another planet. around 300 years ago. Since then, they have largely moved their power base to Silvanus where they have set up large cities and sophisticated infrastructure. Their aptitude for science is unmatched. Many of the best scientists are Formicis. Their Silvanis colonies provides 76% of food production and as such are heavily involved in agriculture and food science. It is also rumored that the formici's be doing some mad scientist shit on the down low. Their culture prizes intelligence over strength. Queen- pendal formici (Life of a Formici princess) Insecta (ihn-SEKT-uh) The Insecta clan are bureaucrats, born to help others file their taxes, and are understandably a bit bitter about this. They are thorough to a tee and if one word is misspelled on your paperwork they will make you start over. They also control the banks and most financial institutions and are often employed by other clans. The Insecta are also in charge of archiving and file storage. Insecta run media outlets make up the majority of news sources and the insecta run the equivalent of the internet. Queen- hexpoda insecta Camelli (cuh-MEh-ly) The Camelli clan are rebellious, disloyal, and are small for a major clan. However, their control of the mining industry has given them many resources. Camelli speak with a vaguely ruso- scandinavian accent. They have made Ymir their fortress, better defended than Tartarus, with massive orbital shipyards. They are believed to sponsor rebel groups, but their industrial might and powerful army makes them too important and too powerful to be demoted. NOTE As of 46,520 AC[g] the camelli clan are considered traitors to the throne and any members are to be detained for questioning. (for further information on the Camelli secession see (The Camelli war. (Formerly known as sector breach.)) Queen- regalia camelli thoria camelli Gryllus (gr-illis) The Gryllus are born to fight and die for their queen and their planet, making up 70% of the Tartarusian military. exceptionally loyal and strong, the Gryllus soldiery are the backbone of the I.P.A military. Gryllus are large, usually a head taller than other tarturissians and make excellent soldiers and workers. They are also very involved in the construction industry. The Gryllus are the most loyal to the hemiptera of all clans. And have played an essential role in the unification of tartarus and the camelli war. They do not like traitors.[h] They prize martial skill over most other things so a five year old Gryllus will be as familiar with a pulse rifle as a pencil. Queen- Nika gryllus( is a badass) Population, 18 billion Lampyridae (lamp-ri-day) Distributed across all planets. The Lampyridae control the dyson swarm that powers Tartarusian civilization. Their control of power gives them massive leverage over the government. However they have a very small population. The lampyridae, like the Gryllus, have no planet of their own. Queen- voltax lampyridae Minor clans Fultoni (full-tony) The Fultoni make up the majority of starship crews. They also have gathered a reputation as explorers and sailors. The fultoni work for all clans and are based on a space station near silvanis as the constant meteors make space stations near tartarus impractical. The fultoni mostly run cargo and passenger ships between tartarus, ymir and silvanis. They are the largest “minor” clan Queen- kimala fultoni [i][j] Vespid (vehs-pyd) The Vespids are assassins and infiltrators. And in this age, their services are in high demand. The vespid are one of the smallest clans. [ad][ae][af][ag][ah] Aramax (ar-ah-max) The aramax are a Gryllus subclan that specializes in artillery and demolition. Dysdera The dysadera clan are a minor camelli subset. They specialize in mining and are now mostly stranded on ymir due to the camelli secession. Diet Worker and soldier Tartarusians eat mostly condensed nutrient blocks, made by grinding up mushrooms and adding vitamins and minerals. They also taste like wet cardboard. Only princesses can afford actual food. Most nutrient blocks are made on silvanus due to the fact that the climate there is more suitable for mushroom cultivation. About three a day is enough to live on ← Nutrient block Mating If a worker or soldier wants to mate with a princess, they would go to a mating center and if the princess approves, they mate. Afterwards, the male will go home with the egg and care for it until it hatches. If it is a princess, then the larvae will be taken to a royal nursery and the male will be compensated with 1,500 shards. If not, the male will take care of the child until it reaches maturity. Nurseries also operate as childcare and pediatric care. Classes There are two classes of tarturissians. The most numerous are the soldier class, who make up 70% of the population. Soldier is a mostly outdated term. Next are workers who are larger and stronger than the soldiers. Workers do construction and hard labor. The average income for a soldier is ~50,000 shards or 35,000 usd per year. [p][ai] Language Tartarusians communicate via a combination of spoken language and pheromone trails. Faster than light communication is possible via twinned particles, but it's difficult and expensive, and so it's uncommon. Anatomy Tartarusians have an endo and exoskeleton. The interaction of the musculature with the skeletons (eg attachment points) is a cursed and not at all scientific merging of how it does with each normally. The exoskeleton acts much like armor, with hard plates covering most surface area and gaps around the joints covered by cartilage. Molting occurs regularly during growth, and persists throughout adulthood to accommodate internal size changes (muscularity). They have a large outer set of mandibles and an inner jaw with hundreds of small needle teeth for shredding food into a uniform paste. The outer mandibles are for tearing chunks of food. The average worker or soldier lives around 50 years, but princess can live up to 500 Their antennae function as olfactory organs. The average height for a soldier is 6 feet, but they can be taller or shorter depending on clan. For example, Volkov Camelli is 5,8 and Rector Gryllus is 6,5. Their green blood is caused by high sulfur levels in their bloodstream. Tartessians mature much faster than humans, reaching adulthood by age ten. thermoregulation . cold blooded makes more sense so maybe they just focus on preventing heat loss and mechanical heat generation. They have highly positive thigmotaxis, more so than humans, and thus prefer more cramped architecture. hear me out(https://archiveofourown.org/works/59692468)[q][r][s][t][u][v][w][x][y] (you do not have to read the second half) Their architecture tends to be utilitarian and undecorated, but warm, dry and very clean. Like ants they have a compulsive urge to keep living spaces tidy and free of mold, food waste, and other things like that. Also like ants their saliva contains a number of antimicrobial chemicals, so they often literally lick their wounds to prevent infection. Miscellaneous Basketball is canon but the rules are different it's named Kaljix [aj] 1 Tartarus Shard = 0.7 USD 1 Silvanus shard = 1 USD 1 Ymir shard = 2.8 USD "it runs on sci fi bs" -TJ, regarding Tartarus's planetwide shield AWARDS Medal of excellence- the medal of excellence is awarded to soldiers and civilians that perform their duties exceptionally well in crises situations. Medal of bravery-it's an award for bravery. [ak] Blue star- awarded posthumously for those who sacrificed their lives to protect their comrades. Red star- awarded posthumously for those who sacrificed their lives to destroy the enemy[aa][ab][ac] or accomplish vital objectives. Badge of ymir- awarded to those who go above and beyond in service to the camelli. Order of sacrifice- given to all who were injured or killed in service of the crown [a][Iswto] How do these work? Must one inherit the specialization of one's clan? What if one does not want to do what their clan does? Are they forced into it? If not, how do the clans stay intact? Can one switch clans, or is it more of a formality like last names in real life, "just because your family is like this does not mean you have to be!!!!"? Do they occupy separate spaces on the planets Tartarusians inhabit? Are there any biological differences between clans (besides size, which alone would not divide), or are the divisions completely arbitrary? Do the "Classes" not contradict this clan thing? I know ants in real life have something like that but I would think the worker ants would be the civilians, soldier ants are less numerous and it sounds a bit weird for 70% of the population to be a reserve army unless military training from hatch is a normal and widespread thing in their society. In that case, why bother having clans specifically focused on fighting? And that leads back to my original questioning. [b][Superb Novice] o_O [c][Iswto] What? [i][Jhambi the Very Festive Skeg] Minor, despite being over twice as large as the lampyridae? [j][N] Yes [g][Jhambi the Very Festive Skeg] This is a political document. The full date should be written out. [h][Jhambi the Very Festive Skeg] Wow, they don't like traitors? Really? Me, personally, I can't get enough of them. [p][Jhambi the Very Festive Skeg] What about royalty? [ai][Jhambi the Very Festive Skeg] Also, why would soldiers be more common than workers? What do soldiers actually do if the term "soldier" is outdated? [q][N] what the actual fuck did i just read [r][Iswto] Are you bothered? [s][N] kind of [t][N] i mean, this seems like a violation of rule 2 [u][Iswto] Rule 2 is invalid [v][Jhambi the Very Festive Skeg] What's rule 2 again? [w][Iswto] check the discord [x][Jhambi the Very Festive Skeg] I can't right now [y][Iswto] Do it later then [aj][Jhambi the Very Festive Skeg] Literally any game ever could be described as basketball but the rules are different [ak][Jhambi the Very Festive Skeg] damn I never would have guessed [aa][Jhambi the Very Festive Skeg] So... almost every soldier ever? [ab][N] not really [ac][Jhambi the Very Festive Skeg] Name at least 15 soldiers in a war who did not die trying to win a battle [ad][Jhambi the Very Festive Skeg] How is this legal? [ae][N] they tend to lay low [af][Iswto] It would still be difficult to hide the existence and doings of twelve million people [ag][N] in a population of 70 billion people [ah][Jhambi the Very Festive Skeg] It would be hard to hide the existence and doings of 1 million people on earth.
